Sorry about last Friday, where I blew off like a quarter of the class asking whether the dinner was still on, cos I was busy with something.

Last week of holidays! Time for some serious studying! I guess some of us could invite each other to gang together and study together at some obscure quiet fast food outlet?

And I'm thinking of organising a chalet immediately after our block tests, the last fun event together before the final push for prelims and A levels. Maybe a short 2D 1N chalet at Sentosa or Changi Village? What do you guys think?

Holiday outing

Let's meet up this Friday, 09/06/2006. Perhaps ice skating? Perhaps a short little dinner? Before we actually start intensive mugging for the last 2 weeks.

Any ideas? I need some response here.

healthy lifestyle

For the class

"3rd part: take a class photo at the top and email to me later. Message to class: enjoy the view and breeze. Learn to look at things from a new perspective. You should have learned this since you have been through it before as it is your PW topic. It's been a tough term. You have done well as a class. Rest well, study smartly hard and have a great holiday. Enjoy your class outing. It's designed this way"

hmm just read Mr Gi's emails....

i think we messed up pretty bad this time round.

haha i guess that is more like the Guide to staying happy for life!:D

maybe that was the homework he wanted us to prepare all along... to think along that lines with our own initiative

Hi came, saw, blogged

The Guide to staying happy in 05s44

Yes, just follow these few simple pointers to ensure that you'll always be happy and carefree (no, not including drugs) in 05s44!
  1. Always delight in the small personal victories
  2. If something/someone is pissing you off, look at he/she/it from another perspective
  3. Look above. There is nothing to fear except fear itself.
  4. Look at point 2. Learn to empathize and pity.
  5. Humans have many weapons against our fears and sorrows. Sarcasm, wackiness, ignorance, use them all wisely
  6. We have fantastic vocabularies, being students of a prestigious college. Use that vocab well in our daily conversations.
  7. Dark clouds usually occupy one small corner. The rest of the world enjoys sunshine.
  8. Always think happy thoughts. Even when you're being screwed
  9. Always find the humour in everything.
  10. Motivation only comes from within, never from outside.
  11. If the world sucks, it's because others do. Not because you do.
  12. Always remember to praise where it is due. A simple two words like "Good Job!" never killed anybody.
  13. Give respect where it is due. Nobody is forcing you to respect where it is not due
  14. Always do what you think is right
  15. Stay United.
Follow these simple pointers and you are on your way to staying happy! Even when the sky crumbles, the earth trembles and the bus is late, you'll still stay happy. So happy that no one can take it away.

Everyone is free to add to this list if you have any pointers to share.

Remember, FORM is temporary. (A) CLASS is permanent.

We have a choice =)

what's in a blog

I see this blog is getting deader and deader.

Perhaps when we started this class blog we envisioned it as a place where we could talk about anything and everything under the sun, even stuff that were supposedly rather personal and quite uncomfortable to talk about it public. We (ok, more like me only) envisioned it as a symbol of the so-called class spirit in s44 where we could approach each other and talk freely and openly without qualms or the fear of being labelled as weird. We thought we'd see more weird and quirky stuff here.

We were wrong.

Maybe I was too idealistic, to think that a group of 25 people from wildly diverse backgrounds and upbringings could get together and really talk and treat each other as though you would treat your soulmate/best friend/loved ones/whatever. Maybe I was too optimistic.

Over these 17 months I have come to accept the class for what it is. From 0740 when we stand in line to sing the national anthem and recite the pledge, to the end of lessons, we attend lessons together. We sit at the same table together. We fall asleep in boring lectures together. We laugh and joke and bitch together. Then after the end of lessons...what happens? We walk away to assume our identities as CCA members or good friends outside of school. Perhaps the above scenario is inevitable in every class, no matter how bonded they appear there will always be a prioritizing of relationships and friends.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not attacking or hating or bitching about this class. I am just coming to terms with the fact that my ideals of an ideal class were totally baseless and unrealistic. And after talking to the people in the other classes and other schools I have come to realise that this is true throughout every JC in Singapore and not to this school alone. And then I realise that other classes appear more united and whatnot but that's just a facade to what lies underneath.

So now this blog lies a bit dead and abandoned. I perhaps have spent too much time on it, posting whatever I could think of and trying to drag this blog back from the dead. Maybe I should just let sleeping dogs lie and let others have a chance to post instead of artifically pumping up the post count. Accept the fact that blogging on a group blog should be spontaneous and not just to make it look active. And respect the privacy that others should deserve.

I don't know how many of you actually read and appreciate this little virtual piece of work that some of the class has contributed to. Or bother to check it every day or every week. But yet I hold a faint hope that people will read this. And then actually do something about it. Perhaps have another memorable outing like the one we had last year immediately after OP. Something to remember our 2 years together by, before we go into mugging mode for the A levels and then after that....who knows? Perhaps I haven't tried hard enough at organising stuff and outings, compared to the junior CT reps councillors who are much more enthu than any of us now. Maybe I gave up too early and got discouraged.

I didn't write all of this because I was depressed or angry or angsty or suicidal. No, I wrote this because I actually want to see something change but am too afraid of failure to do anything about it with solid actions, instead of just sitting at a computer typing this. There's still some time left, let's make the remaining months count.

We have suffered a lot together, but we haven't laughed a lot together.

hm i wonder if anony 24 Apr 06, 23:39 and 24 Apr 06, 23:37 were the same as the anony 24 Apr 06, 20:33.. if so, ur stand n tone certainly has changed.. well we dont like to suffer in silence either, but you must know his standing in school.. it would be courting trouble trying to stand up to him.. and be clear, its not for lack of trying.. the point is, the only feasible thing to do now would be to grunt and wait it out since its going to end very soon.. not very practical to anger or provoke someone who’s going to be writing your testimonial and referral letters etc rite? Yeah we live in a pragmatic world. So given this situation, put yourself in out shoes, would you still want to take your suggested course of action?

Have you ever wondered why?

Have you ever wondered why while we live in a supposed 'open' society, free speech is still not tolerated?

Have you ever wondered why it is so dangerous to speak against the government, or your higher ups for that matter?

Well, today the SDP got sued (yet again) for supposed 'false accusations'. Yes the allegations are a bit hard to believe, in fact it seems as if its a story totally fabricated in his fantasy. Yet our senior ministers need not squeeze the opposition dry and drive them to a corner by suing them again and again. But I guess this time they are aware of the criticism and made be more forgiving. Yet again, why was the SDP so stupid to throw such allegations? It could be a calculated political ploy, or perhaps the allegations were really true. Heh. Nobody knows.

Well anyway, we're supposed to live in a 'democratic' society. But so far, the only democracy I see happens just once every six years. And even then its not really democratic because we don't have much choice. While the PAP may be unfairly dominating, the opposition isn't really that capable (yet), and perhaps because the PAP choose to stifle their talent.

Otherwise, at work, in school... do we really see democracy? Except with regards to electing our own SC and house comm and erm, FOTY, we don't really have much of a say in our education and the policies the school may choose to adopt. Contrast that with Switzerland which allow students to vote on many matters including their education.

What about in our very own class...?

Now this is interesting, consider this:
What kind of leader would our CT make?

Answer: A dictator!

Now, isn't that surprising? Please tell me if you disagree though.

But, jokes aside, many of us have suffered, in varying degrees, under many of his unpopular antics, which may not always be bad, but yet definitely not always beneficial.

For example, he chides us when we hand in things a little late, when the consequences are trivial. But when it comes to important things such as our A level registration, he waits till the last day before telling us to see him, presumably to create a sense of anxiety within us so as to either satisfy himself or teach us the importance of punctuality? If it is the latter, then why play the trick again and again without giving us a good proper lecture at the end that he was demonstrating the importance of punctuality. At least that would have justified his actions a little bit more. Because we have such an unpredictable CT, his every move would just keep some of us guessing what he's up to, and whether some actions are deliberate or purely accidental.

Well, I shall not leave my name in case this blog is viewed by eyes that should not see this. Even though I've not slandered, I'm not sure whether our CT might be able to take criticism and feedback well. And if he can, then who wrote it doesn't matter.

Anyone of you is welcome to contribute to this post annonymously if you have any grievances or complains. Just do so in a constructive manner, and do self-censor a bit too.

Happie Entry!!

pple!! i m back!!altho' i wish to stay in italy longer!! ((:

Congrats to aquila!!!

Okie.. that's quite lame but i got that picture in venice anyway. ((:

Yeps. we topped the competition!! ((: Did VJ n Singapore proud!! Upheld the name of VJChoir!! ((:

OKie. so we got 2 gold medals, for the sacred and mixed youth catergory! and was catergory winner for mixed youth. Hence, the chance to perform in the grand finals!!

Den.. at the grand finals we got the audience vote for public prize.. and the judges liked us... so we've got the grand prize!! ((:

FUN FUN!! HAPPY HIPPOS FOR ALL!!

Sports Day!

WARNING: this post is going to be bias, put ur social studies skills to use, didn't u learn to judge the reliability of the report based on the credentials of the author?

so here it goes....

the plan was simple, go in there on april 13 and own sports day.
yeap.. and we did it!

the fun and hype at the grandstands (aquila pepsi, aquila water, the trumpets and euphonium, the hair spray, the balloons and most importantly the cheers!),

the chicky meal chicken look-alike mascot (thanx erjian! u've been perspiring the whole day in it, i'll definitely not forget how u hit the speakers when the music stopped for cheerleading! lol),

decorating the whole track as though it's out own carnival

(the banners opposite the grandstand,

the BIG BIG banner ,

the buntings )

going into the final day of sports day with a 70+ points lead ain't an easy feat, all thanx to the active participation from everyone (really, sports day ain't really a day just for trackers and others from sports cca, bcos the points that we can chalk up are more or less certain already, what makes the difference is all the others who do their part and make a small contribution that adds up to alot. we've proven that right haven't we?). Speaking of which, i apologise for being an irritating bug buzzing around everyone from the house during the registration period.. ooppss... sorry! really wished that everyone could step out of their own comfort zone and try something special during their 2 years in college.

phew! i was really relieved that sports day was not brought forward to the morning. i know alot of u all out there would have thought otherwise.. but then it really meant alot of last minute prep for us, imagine the adrenaline that we've to go thru if the last 6 hours of sports day prep is to be compressed into a short half hour.. and lucky yanho's prediction didn't come true as well... all his talks abt raining that afternoon and sports day postponed to the afternoon..

knew that aquila would not have been able to chalk up as much points as our closest competitors that day (note: i choose the word competitors and not rivals! econs students will get the meaning, it's a friendly competition in the name of school spirit after all right?), just hoping that the extended lead that we have from the heats will have pull us through it... but surprise surprise! we did well that day didn't we?

AQUILA!
CHEERDANCE COMPETITION CHAMPIONS!
OVERALL GIRLS CHAMPIONS!
OVERALL BOYS CHAMPIONS!
SPORT DAY OVERALL CHAMPIONS 2006!

well.. all of these are just mere results, things that will pass and people will forget (besides having the word AQUILA being engraved on the challenge trophy).. what i felt was more important is that we went through this common expereince as a house! i have no regrets abt it if at the end of the day, everyone agrees that "Aquila is the best house to be in!"

as the curtains draw, it's time to pack up my feelings and get back to studies, haven't been able to pay my fullest attention in class for quite a long while.. really ashamed of myself abt it... and sorry to the tutors and lecturers out there if i haven't been doing my work and sleeping during lessons.. i've tried.. really...

for the house, this has been my greatest moment! to lead it to the championship (may i stress that this is superficial once again) and the best house to be in.

as an athlete, this wasn't the best that i could have achieved, it simply wasn't the potential that i could have reached at that moment of time, but i promise, i will rise up to the challege, i will not not fall again like i did this time, no obstacle too big will be there for me to over come, come july during nationals, i will be the jennhaur that leaps confidentlt in the air once again!

(oh, does anyone have pictures of sports day? upload them on the blog pleases, i will really like to have them. thanx!)

DON'T WAIT! DON'T HESITATE!
THE BATTLE HAS BEGUN!
INTIMIDAT AND DOMINATE,
AQUILA'S NUMBER ONE!

WE'VE GOT IT TOGETHER!
WE'RE GOING TO THE TOP!
DUN LOOK BACK,
COS WE WOULDN'T BE STOP!

AQUILA!
