harlo everybuttie
Ever since Facebook caught fire back in 2007, this blog has been quite dead. I still remember being invited by one of you guys to Facebook, disinterestedly poking around the settings, and then leaving it to rot, before realising that everyone else was using it.
And just look at today.
Facebook has made this blog obsolete. But there is still a use for this blog yet.
We find many things on the Internets today that are truly worth sharing with others, and we share them on Facebook in the form of links. However, unless one bothers to check the links section everyday, those enlightening tidbits of information are often washed away and pushed down into oblivion by some random status updates and some unglam photos.
So, this blog gets a new lease of life as a place to share stuff on the net that we think is worth sharing. On Facebook I don't know if the stuff I share is permanent. But at least on good old Blogger, where the rather gay entry 5 years back is still there for us to see, I can be sure that they'll remain there 5 years later.
So to start off, for those folks considering a new phone:

*knock knock*
Hello. How is everybody?
The number of posts per year (as reflected under 'blog archive') has dropped exponentially over the years, with 2009 hitting the lowest possible positive integer of 1.
And then I got reminded that I was the one who set this up *feels proud* (people can refer to my rather gay entry posted way back on Friday, May 27, 2005), so I thought I should try not to let the number fall to zero.
I did a quick browse through our old entries, and they had brought back many good memories. A little sad that the blog is no longer as active as the yesteryears, but I guess everyone has already moved on. Its a natural process I'm sure, so now this blog (and EJ's class fotopic) has taken on a new role: time capsule.
While the virtual 05S44 world (aka here) has effectively died and this resembles an abandoned underground dungeon with the occasional soul floating around, well at least in the real world, 05S44 is still pretty much alive.
1) Last semester there was the (almost) weekly 'class' lunches on Thursdays which included me, gct, ej, jotm, zc, jh, mn.
2) The four of us living in Tampines still meet up relatively frequently for dinner and/or movie.
3) EJ is in the same NS battalion as me so we met (and chatted, and shared cab) for ICT :( too.
4) Trip to JB, although it ended up more like a Tampines outing lol.
I guess the others are still meeting up in their own various organized outings? Care to share and update? I'm not quite the type who goes around asking how everyone is, but that doesn't mean I don't care. I do bump into the random S44 classmate in school, but usually there's no time to say anything more than 'hi' and 'bye'.
As for me, the past academic year has been ok, although I have a little CAP chasing to do this coming academic year. However I am a little unsure about my future, so I guess that makes CAP chasing a little difficult. Hope I can get things sorted out soon. :)
A certain classmate is doing pretty well though. He does a DDP in Mathematics and Computer Science, is in the dean's list for his Computing grades (people can see his handsome face on the wall walking though COM1 Level 2 towards Business canteen) and is going to be a tutor this coming sem!
New semester is starting soon, hope we can meet up for lunch again. Busy is not quite a reason not to eat lunch with us.

EOY Chalet
This blog is seriously dead....
Anyway, haven't had a decent class outing in months! It's either too little people come or the whole thing just collapses on itself because nobody can come. haizz
I'm seriously thinking of organising (more like just booking the chalet and then shoving the rest of the work to you guys) a class chalet at the end of the year or the start of next year. And by class I hope to see (almost) the whole class like the class chalet we had at the start of this year (remember cycling to Changi Village and seeing trannys by the roadside?)
The chalet will probably be held on either a weekend on the last week of 2008 (i.e. between Xmas and New Year) or on the first week of 2009, because the girls have term break during this period and most of the guys will have ORDed by then.
The location will most probably be Aranda Country Club, however if the cost is prohibitive then I guess we need to trouble Jiejun again to book a chalet at Aloha Loyang.
I'm just asking around for a rough idea of how many people can make it then. If the response is good then I will book it and then let you guys know the date. So if you see this post then either let me know whether you can make it at the end of this year or not, preferably quite soon since it is best to book early to avoid disappointment.

Its the month of May...
Happy Birthday to..
Nigel, Jie Jun and Wei Hong!!
Pardon the cake, it was done by girls which explains the OVERWHELMING PINK. They are practicing to make it for their future / current boyfriends. :D Anyway You guys have reached the big 2! Wish you guys all the best for what you're gonna set out to do.. Things won't be as simple as following instructions for Mr. Gi and Co. anymore... Everything will be on your own onus, nobody will force you to go for healthy lifestyle anymore (lest the army), but there'll be so much more opportunities for you to do whatever you want. So have fun and enjoy this exciting time you have ahead of you!
Anyway, a big Thank you to those who made an effort to come down for last sat's potluck despite your busy schedule. Kudos to those who brought the great food.. Like Min Ning and Mark who brought roast chicken and durian, and Angela who came to bake the PINK birthday cake.. haha. Well, in Shu Yu's 3 word phrase, it was "DE-LI-CIOUS!" :p
Well here are some pics for you guys who missed the outing.. Its a pity you couldn't be here, but nvm, you can join next time.. Esp the pple overseas.. We definitely will have to have a gathering when you're back!.

Other than a class gathering / birthday celebration, that day was also a farewell party for Yan Ho, who is going to Australia to continue his pilot training! The road ahead is not gonna be easy for him, as the training will be tough and stringent. So lets wish him all the best for this important last (if i'm not wrong) stretch of training!
Some of us went to see him off this morning..
His family was very sad that he's leaving..
Except his playful brother, who is JUST LIKE HIM. haha.. Doodling on his back while he's hugging his mum.
Yup. All the best Yan Ho!!
Well, in 15 years time,
Mohan will design a plane, Jenn Haur will buy it, Yan Ho will fly it; and we can have a class outing around the world! Hahaa. Work hard guys!

An update from Australia
Hey Class,
Greetings from Sydney, Australia! :)
My school has just started and I'm proud to say that I only have a 3-day school week! And, it's just 12 hours of lectures and tutorials each week! YAY. I might be incurring the wrath of some/all of the girls but yea, my timetable is very slack! Haha.
We just had celebrated the biggest parade-cum-clubbing event of the year. The event is called Mardi Gras, where all the gays and lesbians will come together and do a parade. (e.g. something like Chingay, but much more interesting.) Mardi Gras celebrated its 30th Anniversary this year. The event has grown so big that most of the important city road are blocked off and all buses going into the city has to detour.
However, there is one thing to take note of. Aussies are a crazy bunch, ESPECIALLY when they are drunk. My group of friends and I were taking a cab into the city (because there were no buses!) when this drunk Aussie guy threw a full can of beer! And if my taxi has gone a little faster, my friend would have suffered serious injuries. :/ Thankfully, no one was hurt. -phew.
Well, that's all for my update. I hope everyone is safe with Mas Selamat on the loose.
P.s. I cooked this dish. :)

ReVamP!
Wheree have everybody gone??? It has been almost a month since our last post! Hahaa.. When I looked at our blog, it looked dead.. So i decided to revitalise it! Ha.. its more personal now.. but its far from perfect, so if you think you wanna make it look nicer (or have nothing better to do like me), feel free to edit it.. there's always room for improvement. And it shld never be a 1-man effort, I did it with Angela's help tooo.
Anywayy, other than revivning this blog, i've decided to revive our spirit too..

Our next major event: STJ!!!
Haha.. it seems that it has been conveniently forgotten, but its never too late :D Its time to have a mega S44 reunion.
I'm planning it on the 15 March, and I've decided to sacrifice and have a bbq at my house - Ocean Park(yeah its me, wilbur :)). This STJ isn't just abt forking out money. You have to CHU LI also! So, expect me to start calling you up soon.. not only to check whether you're free, but also to enquire about your labour services available :D
But of course, what's a Victorian without some initiative? If you have any special skill, or anything that would be useful, you can contact me directly too. Just to let you know in what ways you can help out...

Ok.. Some updates here.. on 29 Feb 2008, Angela, Yan, and I went to support shu yu's1st Dance concert! Haha.. reminded me of VJ days again.. where we had concerts and we went around supporting each other.. Yep. From soccer girl, she's now dance girl! And not bad at that, considering she only started for like 6 months?
The next day, Liang and I went cycling.. we cycled the eastern park connector route.. From East coast to changi, pasir ris, tamp, bedok and finally back. 40 plus click in total.. Quite an amazing feat for Liang, who just learned how to cycle recently! haha. although he had his fair share of stumbles..
Well.. the scenery was great. And there were plenty of opportunities for photo shoots.

Yup. A class may be together for only 2 years.. But friends have a longer life span :) Though we have all moved on in life, as long as we continue to treasure these friendships forged, we can continue to have great fun together and support each other.
We'll be a class beyond.. so let our spirit live on!

The new year beckons
Happy new year everyone!
Its Jan 2008, our third year anniversary. And we're celebrating it with our very own class chalet :D
So much has had happened since we last went for our healthy lifestyle together, the girls went to uni, the guys went to army. The last year seemed arduously long at the start, but now it seemed to have passed in a flash. Well, for the guys, MOST of us have about 11 months to ORD! Then we'll enjoy an ultra long holiday.. And the girls will continue mugging in their UNIs. haha. And for Sean, welcome to army :D
But come this saturday, lets just forget about our worries and relive our old moments. This chalet is a time for us to catch up and just have greeat fun like never before. So bring along anything that you have to contribute! Be it games, DvDs, consoles, mahjong or even some liquor! ANd most importantly, be therE!
So see ya all on Saturday, 1230 at Pasir Ris MRT
Latecomers will be punished, NONCOMERS will be hunted down and tortured. :D

Merry Christmas
Walked down Orchard today, and the atmosphere was really different.
For one, it was especially warm. There was a buzz in the air. It was as if something was cookin', and everything was making everyone feel fuzzy. Yet it was relaxing, and there was no rush for anything.
It was also very crowded. There were people everywhere. Everyone seemed to have company. It was hard to find loners passing by this very bright and warm alley. Really heartwarming.
Lastly, there were Christmas trees! Like HUGE ones everywhere. They were really big, and people were taking photos of them and with them.
Kinda reminds me of SDD, the Christmas tree.

your guide to training in australia
haha shuwen might have something to say about this, but here goes anyway...

- of the 30 or so days i spent over there, only about 10 or so days were spent outfield. the rest? spent in bunk or camp, sometimes happily slacking away and sometimes being instructed to do some very stupid stuff
- and then even when we went outfield most of the time we sat in the 'vehicle' going from place to place for long long periods of time. so long that the butt and back seriously hurts. and even when we didn't sit in the 'vehicle' there really wasn't nothing much to do.
- the climate there was very nice to train in. i guess the air there was very dry so we didn't really sweat a lot. during the day time even with the relentless sun beating down on us we still remained quite dry, and when a breeze blows it is really shiok. so we could go like 4 or 5 days straight without ever changing out of our uniforms. and for the more commando ones (including me) we didn't change socks and underwear for like 4 to 5 days straight outfield. and best of all, they still remained relatively smell free even after 4 to 5 days, hehe.
- the sun rises at about 0430 there. so when you wake up the sun is shining already. a far cry from what most of us do in camp.
- the nights were very cool as well. although on some nights spent outfield it was really freezing cold even with like 3 layers of clothing we couldn't wait for the sun to come out and for the time to wake up.
- the base camp we stayed in had surprisingly good facilities. good enough to stay for longer than a month.
- the canteen there really saved us. cold drinks on hot days. warm food on cold nights. although the prices there were overkill. A$3 for a 600ml carton of milk. A$3.50 for a hot dog. A$3 for fries (chips, they call it) so on and so forth. but not like we had a choice anyway. i thought i wouldn't spend much money over there but somehow my money drained very quickly thanks to the drinks.
- BUT...the place where all our 'vehicles' were parked were located a good 20 minutes walk away from the camp. i estimated a 1 km walk there. considering that we had to go there almost every day when in camp...good exercise for the body, but very tiring.
- great scenery over there. if you train somewhere on the singapore mainland, and you throw a stone, chances are it will land somewhere urban. over there there were plains stretching as far as the eye could see, ending in tall majestic mountains.
- it sometimes felt and looked like tekong over there though. but it was very dusty. very very very very dusty.
- i don't know how many trees we knocked down while bashing through vegetation. it was a slow and painful process, taking almost an hour to travel like 5 km. it was very dangerous though. a 4 storey tall tree being knocked down and falling right on your head means instant death even with a helmet on.
- the training area was said to be 4 times the size of singapore. so this meant that when the drivers drove they often drove more than 100km in a single day. by the end of the exercise most drivers drove more than 1300+km (!!!)
- they don't call it wallaby for nothing. many kangaroos around. some were even daring enough to hop just opposite the canteen, very close to our camp.
- nothing much to talk about. i estimate that rockhampton town was the same size as Tampines and Bedok towns put together.
- eating over there is scary. since australia is a western country you only eat western food, so we ate western food during our day off and R & R there. and it was about the same for all meals. meat meat meat meat, salads, and then more meat.
- going to a supermarket over there is an eye-opening experience. why? ratio of soft drinks to bottled water over there is like 100:1. all carbonated drinks. no stuff like green tea or whatever tea we are used to over here.
- they have a lot of snacks (i.e. potato chips). and they sell them in HUGE packs. me and my motel roommate bought this huge gigantic pack of crisps containing 30 small packs for only like A$6.50
- and the frozen food section there is O.O gigantic frozen pizzas for only like A$5. and lots of MRE (meals ready to eat) over there as well
- although the Sizzler there pwns Singapore's Sizzler. The salad bar is enough for a very filling meal already
- shops over there close at about 1700. so there isn't really much nightlife there except for pubs and whatnot. food outlets close later though.
