hey guys, i've decided to take a look around myself to find out more about the choices and range of prices we have. I figured out that since some of us might find the price steep, or can't spend too much coz we mite already be going on another holiday, we can perhaps look at some of the alternatives we have available in the biggest thing that has happened to the airline industry - budget airlines. haha.

ok so assuming we don't go on a tour and take a budget airline, stay in a budget hotel and go free n ez.. here are some of the prices you'll be looking at.

For Taiwan (taipai),
a normal economy class tic from thai airways is around $375 with return
a budget airline - jet star charges around $307

not much difference here and I'm quite surprised by that. Maybe I didn't look hard enough..

For accomodation,
a normal hotel would be around $105/night and a budget one would be $70/night

Again not a lot of difference but you don't have to assume the budget one is really cheapskate budget or the normal one is much more luxurious.

Overall, assuming we stay like 4 nights, the cheapest rate would be $447/person, since 2 pple share 1 room. If we can get 3 pple in 1 room it'll go down lower a bit.

Ok. so that's taiwan for you. Saving on accomdation and airfare isn't such a bad idea as it'll leave you more money to shop. But anyway, considering the political climate in taiwan now, where you might just get beaten up if you wear red or green, some of our parents might not let us go. And also, it'd be safer to go with a tour group. Ahh.. but we're adventurous, we can go and take a look at the protests, something we can't get see in Singapore. heh.

Ok what about other places?

If we go phuket on tiger airways.. It'll be $19.98 / flight.
If we go to HK on jetstar.. it'll be $256 including return, and their budget hotels are also around $70/person. So yes its cheaper than taiwan.

Ok so that's basically what I found after my brief research.

I feel that if we want to make this a class thing (>50% of the class goes), we'll have to make it affordable. We can also go to nearby destinations like well, Malaysia. At least it beats staying in S'pore all the time. ahah. But most importantly, we need to see some serious interest.. so please respond if you're for the idea, because we'll need to plan early and book early to get cheaper rates. There's also many things to settle on such as when we're going, last S paper finish around end of Nov? So yup, we'll need to discuss as a class while we still can.

Oh anyway, anyone interested in going for a movie on monday or tuesday? when most of us have finished our papers..
